Wedding Time Capsule
I recently did a wedding and the couple chose a unique ceremony to symbolize their union. It was a wedding time capsue. They used a bottle of wine with two glasses, letters that had written to each other to be opened in 5 years or in case of emergency, and a wooden box.
Before the wedding, they had each written a letter to the other person talking about what they had noticed in the other person that had attracted to each other in the first place. They wrote about the things that they appreciated most about them, their strengths, and why they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. Then they sealed them in an envelope.
As the officiant, I described what they had done, and talked about the box they were sealing. Then each placed their letters into the box. The lid was placed on the box and they each nailed the lid shut. They were instructed to place the box in a prominent place in their home to remind them of their commitment and open in on their fifth anniversary. If they had some difficulties and needed to open it sooner to remind them of their reasons for marrying one another in the first place.
